How to Create a Meditative Environment in the House
The environment and space in our house affects our inner state. The
outer emptiness helps in bringing the silence within also. Our
surrounding always affects our meditation. e.g. it is easier to meditate
near nature or sea than in a closed building. It is quite helpful to
create a meditative space in the house.
Few easy steps which can help us in creating a meditative environment
in the house are:
- Do not clutter the house with unnecessary thing - Simply get rid
of the things which are not required. Mind is going to make a lot of
noise when you are going to discard anything, so better do not pay
attention to the mind and use your intelligence or awareness in
giving your house a neat look. It helps in flow of Chi or Life
energy too.
- Avoid newspapers, television, magazines and mobile phone as much
as you can. If possible then subscribe to spiritual or meditation
oriented magazines. Instead of watching TV, watch or listen to
discourses of enlightened masters like Osho and J Krishnamurti. Read
meditation books and its handy to keep spiritual and meditation
books where they are easily accessible.
- Try to create as much empty space as you can. The Meditation
room or space should be ideally empty. The outer emptiness attracts
the silence or emptiness within too.
- Place a Buddha Statue or photographs of enlightened masters like
Osho, Gurdjieff, Jiddu Krishnamurti, Meher Baba, Ramana Maharshi etc
in your rooms.
- The bedroom should ideally be dark. Darker the bedroom is, more
deeper will be the sleep. Use soothing colors for wall paintings.
- Play meditation or devotional or soft healing music from time to
time.
- If possible, then keep a space dedicated only for meditation or
for spiritual work.
- Light some fragrance or make use of aroma candles, or stuff like
aura soma time to time, if possible then every day.
- Have weekly or monthly gathering of friends for silent sitting
or for group meditation. Be in the company of like minded people who
wants to grow in meditation.
- Trees helps a lot in meditation. They not only give oxygen but
they also help in grounding and making us relax. So Plant trees near
your house or keep potted plants in your house.
- Relaxation aids in meditation. If one is not relax then
meditation is not possible. So try to have a comfortable and
relaxing environment in the house. Avoid unnecessary noises or
disturbances.
- Remember your spiritual master as much as you can. Before you
start meditating remember your spiritual master and after the
meditation share your love and joy with existence. From time to time
send a prayer to existence for well being of humanity.
- During the day try to be more aware in your activities. Do small
activities with awareness and remember the master and buddha within
as much as you can.
- Be regular in meditation. More we meditate in the house, more
meditation vibes are created in that space.
- Try to be more creative and cheerful. Forget being efficient and
become more creative in your work.
- Keep the house clean and let there is natural flow of air and
sunlight in the house.
- Avoid eating or cooking non-vegetarian food. Drinking alcohol
and non-vegetarian food is not good for meditation. When we cook
non-vegetarian food in the house then it brings down the energy of
the whole house and makes the energy more gross.
- Share your love and help whenever you can. Be more loving and
creative. Let there be an attitude of gratitude towards existence.
- Keep yourself physically fit and mentally alert. Grow in love
and meditation.
